You can call him every gay word in the book "Queer", F-g, "Tom Cruise" Franky, etc. but even if you don't like his sexuality, you have to love his music. I've downloaded about 4 of his songs (Swim Good, We all Try, Thinkin' About You, Novocane) and every single one has this new type of R&B element to it. He seems like a quiet guy that lets his music do the speaking. Well I'm gonna let his music do the speaking by rating his new album Channel Orange!
1. Start (N/A)
Can anyone guess which video game it is that he's starting up? Ill give you a hint, It contains a whole bunch international fighters......No not Jersey Shore....Street fighter....These 90's kids suck!
2. Thinkin' About You (6/5)
All I can say is this is one of my favorite songs of all time....Nothing else to really say.
3. Fertilizer (N/A)
Another interesting interlude. I guess after 3 songs the album has received a 6/5! is this the greatest album of all time guys? lol
4. Sierra Leone (4/5)
Maybe if he called the song Nigeria then I would give it 5ish. Song is hot though. It's neo-soul yet somewhat goofy. Nice gentle song, gentle beat.
5. Sweet Life (4/5)
Sounds like live instruments so it definitely has a fresh vibe to it. I am actually astonished, I didn't know Frank Ocean was this good of a singer honestly. Kinda weird to hear him talk about girls. It's almost like its fake!
6. Super Rich Kids (4/5)
I Like this song. Simple vibe to it. I've been saying this from day 1 that Earl Sweatshirt is a beast. He's clearly the best in that atheist stupid ass group!
7. Pilot Jones (3/5)
High pitched song
8. Crack Rock (4/5)
Good song, of course talking about the trials and tribulations of Bobby Brown. His lyrics are so out there that it's crazy. It's almost like he's freestyle singing. He doesn't have any set structure to his music which is very interesting....Ok a little annoying.
10. Pyramids (4/5)
Adlib song once again. It's a little annoying Might I suggest. The second song is a little more structured and catchy. second part is good.
11. Lost (4/5)
Good simple song. Sounds like that Trey Songz song on pleasure and pain called blind...I guess being blind is equivalent to being lost right?
12. White (N/A)
Wanna hear something funny? This song features, John Mayer, and is produced by Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean.....But you can't hear any of them on the song.
13. Monks (3/5)
What the hell is he talking about? This dude here. This song is just a bunch of ad-libs.
14. Bad Religion (5/5)
Man I had to listen to this song at least 4 times in a row, I'm listening trying to really, really understand several things. First being a Christian I wanted to know what he is referring to when he says Bad religion? Then I get it, he is saying that Bad Religion is loving and not being loved back. Then I go back and listen to it to figure out where he's talking about this alleged gay love.. Still don't get it. VERY, VERY, VERY Complex song. I admit, it's pretty damn amazing though.
15. Pink Matter (N/A)
It's an interesting song. He's just in another zone. He's lost somewhere is all I can say. Wow.
16. Forrest Gump (5/5)
DAMNIT, DAMNIT! I knew the best structured song on the album was gonna be the one he was blatantly talking about the boy. DAMNIT! WHY! HAHA. This ish is tight. I think i'll redo the song, and say girl instead. Probably the gayest song I've ever heard in my life......aside from anything Bei Major makes. How can I make it that my iPod would automatically skip this song all the time?
17. End (N/A)
He ends the album just like he starts it....Awkward, Dark, Weird. This is a weird N---a! I wouldn't want to be around this dude at all. This dude is too weird! LOL He reminds me of Jerry Sandusky. He's the scary gay, the down low gay....That ish scares me. (Sorry I tried my hardest to be neutral lol)
Let me just say this. Frank Ocean is on another level musically. If you listened to this album in whole like I did, By the end of it you should be thinking this..... What did I just hear? The best way to describe it is imagine the complex thoughts of the movie Inception put into an album. Every song makes you think outside of the box. Every song has a deeper meaning. Every song has extremely clever metaphors for how he's feeling. every song is a story. This album is nothing short then amazing. I feel like rating it wouldn't even be fair. But they pay me 10 cents a month for this so here it goes
9.0/10
A Very, very, very complete album. A quality-wise, the beats, the melody, the effort is A+. This ain't no weak album guys. Ain't no Usher Techno talentless songs (No offense Ush) ain't no ignorant club songs (Sorry everyone else) It's just plain ol good music. a little taste the rainbowish but still good.
